  With the recent cold wave and strong cold air coming to the Northeast, ice conditions in Liaodong Bay of the Bohai Sea have developed rapidly. According to the latest satellite remote sensing and land shore monitoring data, the maximum outer edge of the floating ice in Liaodong Bay was only 25 nautical miles offshore on January 18. By January 27, it had grown to 68 nautical miles, with the sea ice area reaching 15,003 square kilometers. The sea ice area increased by 1,580 square kilometers compared with the previous day.

  Li Ge, chief sea ice forecaster of the Beihai Forecasting and Disaster Reduction Center, said in an interview with reporters that day that in general, the fluctuations of sea ice this winter have been dramatic. Ice conditions have developed rapidly in mid-to-late December and late January. Currently, Liaodong Bay The ice conditions are slightly heavier than the same period in normal years, and the ice conditions in Bohai Bay, Laizhou Bay and the northern Yellow Sea are similar to the same period in normal years.

  According to forecasts, ice conditions in the Bohai Sea and northern Yellow Sea will further develop late next week.
