Monica
, a graphic novel published in October by Delcourt, is the story of the life of an ordinary American woman, through a multitude of very diverse stories.
The winner absent due to Covid-19
This book, highly appreciated by critics, among others, earned Daniel Clowes, 62 years old, enough votes from his peer authors to reach the final of the Grand Prix de la Ville d'Angoulême this year. But the American was beaten by the winner Posy Simmonds, crowned Wednesday evening. The winner of this Fauve d'or, who lives in Oakland, California, was unable to make the trip to Angoulême.
“Daniel Clowes wanted to come. He came from San Francisco, he arrived in Paris. But the Covid stopped him in Paris,” said his publisher Guy Delcourt, who received the trophy on the stage of the Angoulême Theater . Posy Simmonds had also been prevented from coming from London three days earlier by a toothache.
The comic in search of recognition
American comics, or comics, are seeking greater recognition within the Angoulême Festival which is the bastion of traditional Franco-Belgian comics, then which has largely opened up to Japanese manga.
The publisher François Hercouët, from Urban Comics, took advantage of his appearance on the stage of the Théâtre d'Angoulême, on the occasion of another prize, to plead in favor of the appointment of a third artistic director of the Festival, comic specialist. The Angoulême Festival closes its doors on Sunday evening, at the end of an edition which once again attracted a very large audience.
