The Humanists are a non-theistic community working for a secular state.

They provide non-denominational ceremonies such as weddings, funerals and baby showers.

They also pursue political issues such as being against religious free schools.

- Secular humanism believes in a naturalistic reality and is not governed by supernatural forces.

We have a secular base of values and perception of reality, says Christer Sturmark.

After rejection – religious activity

The secular humanist association Humanisterna has previously had its application to become a registered religious community rejected by the Kammarkollegiet, which is the authority responsible for registration.

The application was rejected with reference to the fact that, according to their own description, the Humanists do not conduct "religious activities" and cannot be considered a religious community in the sense of the law.

But after the appeal in the Administrative Court, the Kammarkollegiet has changed its decision and now agrees that the activities that the Humanists carry out are to be regarded as religious activities.

Financial security

The approval means financial security for the organization, which is now entitled to the same state funds as other faith communities, and that the tax authorities will be able to assist in collecting membership fees.

- The important thing about this is that we can get marriage rights.

We also have summer camps that are much easier to run legally, says Christer Sturmark.
