Djamel Belmadi is no longer Algeria coach.

The Fennecs boss did not survive another elimination in the first round of the CAN, the end of his collaboration with the selection was announced this Wednesday.

The president of the Algerian Federation, Walid Sadi, announced the end of the collaboration between the Fennecs coach this Wednesday, January 24.

“ 

I

met the national coach, Mr. Djamel Belmadi, to discuss the consequences of this bitter exclusion, and we reached an amicable agreement to terminate the contract that binds the coach to the Algerian Football Federation, 

” he communicated.

As a reminder, Algeria suffered one setback too many

against Mauritania

for its third and final match of the group stage, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

The Fennecs failed in last place in Group D with two points, two years after elimination at the same stage of the competition during the 2022 edition. The fault of two other disappointing results, two draws

against Burkina Faso

and Angola

Djamel Belmadi, in office since 2018, was however the providential man for the coronation of Algeria in 2020, the second in the history of the selection.

Since then, a non-qualification for the World Cup in Qatar had also tarnished his aura.

He was under contract until 2026.
