75-year-old Depardieu has also been accused of rape in two other cases.
One has not led to prosecution and in the other case the investigation was closed in 2019, but resumed the following year.
Earlier this year, the French news site Mediapart published an investigation in which 13 women accused Depardieu of multiple instances of groping and inappropriate sexual invitations.
Gérard Depardieu denies any crime and has not been convicted of any of the charges against him.
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his support for him, as have some sixty French cultural figures who in an open letter in the newspaper Le Figaro condemned the "lynching" of him.
