Talk show guest Merz (2021 with Markus Lanz): Can talk about the CDU basic program for his debut

Is that the question that is currently troubling Germany?

"Merz is realigning the CDU - will Germany's future become conservative?" is the title of presenter Caren Miosga's first program on the Sunday evening talk show slot on ARD.

For the issue of January 21st, Miosga and her editorial team invited the CDU chairman Friedrich Merz, the “Zeit” journalist Anne Hähnig and the sociology professor Armin Nassehi to the discussion.

If this division - only one politician, two experts - becomes the rule, it would be a departure from the concept of the previous show "Anne Will", in which several party politicians often argued with each other.

The concentration on a single guest from politics is more reminiscent of Markus Lanz's ZDF talk.

Caren Miosga announced in a SPIEGEL interview that she also wanted to speak to AfD politicians on her new ARD talk show.

But this does not apply to everyone from this party.

There are also AfD people “who are so blatantly right-wing extremist that they won’t get an invitation either.”

Miosga moderates the Sunday talk on ARD as Anne Will's successor.

It will be shown on 30 Sundays a year.

Miosga told SPIEGEL that she didn't want to stage a riot: "We don't want to occupy the group so that everyone hits each other's heads." In our opinion, this form of orchestration does not fit into these already turbulent times.

In the broadcast announcement for Sunday, their editorial team refers to the CDU's new basic program, which is much more conservative than the previous one.

Caren Miosga wanted to discuss with her guests "how the CDU wants to differentiate itself from the AfD in the future and what this course means for the state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg."
