Banpeiyu is said to be one of the largest citrus fruits in the world.

It's now in season, and children in Oita City have experienced harvesting it.

At Nodayama Kindergarten in Oita City, children regularly have the opportunity to experience harvesting the fruits grown in the garden in order to help them develop an appreciation for food.

On the 18th, about 80 older kindergarteners harvested Banpeiyu and Pearl Citrus, which are in season, from an orchard near the school.

The children picked off round pearls and banpeiyu pieces larger than their faces one after another and put them in a box.

They then tasted the freshly harvested banpeiyu on the spot, enjoying the sweet and sour taste of winter.

According to the farm, the produce harvested on the 18th will be served as dessert for school lunches.

One girl who participated said, ``The banpeiyu was so heavy that it made my arms tired. When I picked it up, it had a sour smell.''

The boy said, ``It's delicious. It was fun to spin the banpeiyu and pick it up.''
