Leader and captain of Equatorial Guinea, Emilio Nsue literally carried his team this Thursday, January 18 against Guinea-Bissau for the second day of CAN 2024. With a resounding hat-trick (21st, 51st, 61st) for a victory (4 -2) without appeal from the Nzalang nacional on the Djurtus.

If Guinea-Bissau quickly equalized, benefiting from an own goal from Orosco (37th), Miranda took care of restoring the advantage to his team upon returning from the locker room (46th) before the Emilio Nsue show .

This hat-trick is a new feat for the man who had already scored the goal of Equatorial Guinea's qualification for CAN 2022, the first achieved on the field.

The player, born in Spain in Palma de Mallorca, of an Equatorial Guinean father, had decided to play for his father's homeland after having known all the Spanish selections, from the U17s to the Espoirs.

Trained as a right back, a position he occupied most of his youth and club career, Nsue became the star striker of his team and even Equatorial Guinea's all-time top scorer (20 goals) .

With this victory acquired against Guinea-Bissau, beaten a second time after the setback against Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea can begin to dream of the round of 16 with already a place among the best thirds almost assured.

Equatorial Guinea is not a big player in Africa, but it is certainly one of the teams that has progressed the most in recent years on the continent.

“Invited” during its first two participations (2012, 2015) as organizing country, this small nation of less than 1.5 million inhabitants achieved the feat of making at least a quarter-final in each participation .
