In Satsumagawanai City, one of the leading kinkan producing areas in Kagoshima Prefecture, the harvest of brightly colored kinkan is at its peak.

In Satsuma Kawanai City, the cultivation of kankan in agricultural greenhouses began about 40 years ago, and now more than 40 producers are making it under the brand "Kagoshima Kinkan Iriki".

Among them, harvesting began last month at a greenhouse in Irai-cho, Satsumagawanai City, and farmers were harvesting them one by one with scissors while checking the color of the fruit.

This season, there were concerns about the growth due to the lack of rain in the summer, but it has grown smoothly without damage from typhoons, and it is finished in a sweet and bright orange color.

The harvest will continue throughout next month, and about 230 tons are expected to be shipped to Tokyo, Osaka, and Hong Kong.

Farmer Teruhiko Hagimoto said, "Unlike mandarin oranges, it is attractive that you can eat it whole with the skin intact, and it is rich in vitamin C, so I think it is good for preventing colds during the cold season."
