The series »Succession« has cleaned up at this year's Emmy television awards: Kieran Culkin won the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series and Sarah Snook took home the award for Best Actress in the same category, the series also won the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director in its category.

With all the jubilant images, one could easily forget one big loser of the evening: "Better Call Saul". But maybe you've just gotten used to the fact that the show doesn't win anything, absolutely nothing at all at the Emmy Awards. The series and its actors have been nominated for Emmy Awards a total of 53 times in recent years, but there has never been a trophy. Rekord »as the most disregarded series of all time«, writes the industry newspaper »Variety« .

Four nominations this year, no prize

In 2015, »Better Call Saul«, the prequel to the hit series »Breaking Bad«, premiered. In August 2022, the series ended with its sixth season. Actor Bob Odenkirk has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series six times over the years – he always came away empty-handed. Rhea Seehorn, who portrays Kim Wexler in the series, did not receive an Emmy, nor did the screenwriters, directors or supporting actors.

The series was also nominated in four categories at this year's Emmys: Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series, Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Best Screenplay in a Drama Series. A trophy? Not at all.

So now the negative record for »Better Call Saul«. Series writer Thomas Schnauz reacted with sarcasm. At X, he writes: "We did it!"

Lead actor Odenkirk had obviously suspected something. The day before the ceremony, he had written on X alongside photos of the "Better Call Saul" team: "Tomorrow is the Emmys, but I've already won gold when I teamed up with this group of good, talented, hardworking people!"

After all, "Better Call Saul" has won other critics' awards in recent years, and media such as the BBC, the British film magazine "Empire" and "Rolling Stone" have selected the series in lists of the best television series in history. And on the rating platform »Rotten Tomatoes«, »Better Call Saul« is one of the most popular series.

Nevertheless, there will not be an Emmy, the series has been filmed. Or as »Variety« writes: »This series is completely, completely, you-can-never-take-it back TV Academy members, came away empty-handed.«
