Las Vegas, Nevada

The scene from Clark County District Court in the US state of Nevada is going viral on social media. Before the dramatic twist occurred, one of the many daily hearings actually took place here – legal gray bread for Judge Mary Kay Holthus:

Mary Kay Holthus, Judge
: "Mr. Redden, is there anything else you would like to say before I pronounce the verdict?"

The offender, convicted of assault, tries to explain himself. He should not be sent to prison again, he argued.

Mary Kay Holthus, Judge
"Have you looked at your criminal record?

Deobra Redden, Defendant
"In fact, I just did..."
Mary Kay Holthus, Judge

"You probably know it."
Deobra Redden, Defendant
"Yes, exactly.

«

The judge leafs through the file – and gives the defendant another chance to make a statement.
He explains that he has psychological problems and that the many crimes have arisen as a result – a realization that he has only recently gained. But the judge stands by her verdict and denies him a suspended sentence.

This leads to a violent incident:
flags topple over and ushers try to overpower the accused. The 62-year-old judge was slightly injured in the attack. An usher had to be treated in hospital. The condition of the two is stable, according to the spokeswoman of the district court.
