China News Service, Beijing, December 12 (Reporter Chen Su) The reporter learned from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China on the 20th that in order to strengthen the protection of terrestrial wildlife populations and their habitats, China released the first batch of 20 important habitats of terrestrial wild animals, protecting 789.82% of the national key protected terrestrial wildlife species.

According to reports, the first batch of important habitats of terrestrial wildlife are divided into six categories, including the survival and breeding areas of rare and endangered species and the distribution areas of wild animal clusters, involving 31 provinces, covering 565 kinds of habitats, breeding grounds and migration areas of national first- and second-class key protected wild animals, including 127 species of mammals, 339 species of birds, 62 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 37 species of insects.

It is understood that the National Forestry and Grassland Administration organized experts to collect the information and data obtained from various wildlife resource surveys in China over the past 20 years, classified and sorted out the characteristics of the natural distribution of wild animals in China, population activity rules and biological Xi, and formulated the "Interim Measures for the Identification of Important Habitats of Terrestrial Wild Animals", which made technical specifications for the identification standards, assessment procedures, archival information, scope delineation and naming rules of important habitats of terrestrial wild animals. After analysis and evaluation one by one, the first batch of important habitats for terrestrial wildlife was screened.

The National Forestry and Grassland Administration said that in the next step, it will further strengthen the investigation, monitoring and evaluation of areas that continue to improve habitat conditions but are not included in the list, and those that meet the relevant conditions will be included in the list one after another.

In recent years, China has built a system of protected areas with national parks as the main body, nature reserves as the foundation, and various natural parks as supplements, and incorporated a large number of wildlife habitats into the scope of protection, effectively maintaining the safety of wildlife habitats and promoting their continuous optimization, which has played a huge role in saving rare and endangered wild animals and maintaining the development of wildlife populations.
