Dua Lipa, Pearl Jam, Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne will headline the next edition of Mad Cool, the music festival's organisers announced on Monday.

The Smashing Pumpkins, Janelle Monáe, Garbage, Rels B, Bring Me The Horizon, Greta Van Fleet, Keane, Michael Kiwanuka, Jessie Ware, Black Pumas, Tom Morello, Bomba Estéreo, Mando Diaio, Alvvays, The Gaslight Anthem, Arlo Parks and The Breeders are some of the other groups and artists that will perform at the Madrid festival.

Mad Cool Festival 2024 will be held in Madrid from July 10 to 13 at the same venue as in its previous edition, in the Villaverde district, next to Getafe. For the first time, the macro-festival will be spread over four consecutive days.

The battery of groups and artists announced on Monday includes 73 names from the more than one hundred concerts that will be part of the festival.

The line-up includes the presence of Dua Lipa, one of the most disputed artists in Spanish festivals for next summer. The British dancepop star will present a new album at Mad Cool.

Another big name on the line-up is Pearl Jam, who in 2018 were already headlining and gave one of the best performances in the history of the festival.

Madrid, the supercapital of concerts: "Things are happening that we have never seen before"

It will be the seventh edition of Mad Cool, one of the largest music festivals in Spain: last year it had an audience of between 65,000 and 70,000 people a day during its three days.

The Madrid festival has already been held in three locations, always within the city, which has led in each case to neighborhood complaints about the noise caused and the crowds in the area. In the 2023 edition, the accesses to get to the venue collapsed, particularly on the first day, with traffic jams in the vicinity and long queues to enter.

Mad Cool has a partnership with multinational live music giant Live Nation. On the other hand, both the City Council and the Community of Madrid provide direct subsidies of one million euros each, approximately, the largest aid from both administrations for a private cultural event. International tourism is one of the reasons that both corporations use for this: 36% of the public last year was made up of foreigners, mainly British, a percentage that festivals and administrations expect to rise in 2024.
