China News Service, Beijing, December 12 (Reporter Liu Liang) The reporter learned from Sinopec on the 8th that China's first commercially distributed ammonia hydrogen production and hydrogenation integrated station, Guangxi Petroleum Nanning Revitalization Refueling Station, was completed in Nanning, Guangxi on the same day and successfully put into trial production.

According to the relevant person in charge of Sinopec, the integrated station adopts the complete set of distributed ammonia hydrogen production technology independently developed by Sinopec, which can produce 500 kg of 99.999% high-purity hydrogen per day, and the scale of hydrogen production is the largest of the same type, which can meet the hydrogen demand of more than 40 hydrogen fuel vehicles. Compared with Guangxi's previous hydrogen consumption methods, the cost has been reduced by 60%, providing a new path to solve the transportation and storage problems faced by the development of China's hydrogen energy industry.

The storage and transportation of hydrogen is a key link restricting the development of the hydrogen energy industry chain. At present, China's hydrogen refueling stations mainly rely on long-tube trailers for transportation, and hydrogen transportation capacity is low and costly. Ammonia decomposition hydrogen production is a technical route for hydrogen production, that is, ammonia is decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen through ammonia decomposition catalysts, and hydrogen purification is used to meet related energy needs. Ammonia is an efficient hydrogen storage medium, which has the advantages of easy storage and transportation, low storage and transportation costs, and does not emit carbon dioxide in the process of ammonia decomposition and hydrogen production, which is more green and environmentally friendly.

As the world's second largest chemical, ammonia is used from a wide range of raw materials. China is the world's largest producer and consumer of synthetic ammonia, and the synthetic ammonia industry is all over the country, which has a good foundation for the development of distributed ammonia hydrogen production. In March 2022, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration (NEA) issued the "3th Five-Year Plan for the Development of New Energy Storage", which for the first time included "ammonia" as an important hydrogen storage carrier in the key research directions, and clearly proposed to carry out "ammonia-hydrogen energy storage" demonstration.

The person in charge said that Guangxi has unique geographical advantages and is an important hub of the new land-sea corridor in the west, with abundant renewable energy resources such as wind, solar and water, and the hydrogen energy industry is poised to take off. The hydrogen production unit is now put into operation, covering an area of only 80 square meters, with a hydrogen production capacity of 240 standard cubic meters per hour, and can produce 500 kg of 99.999% high-purity hydrogen per day, which can currently meet the demand for vehicle hydrogen in Nanning, Liuzhou, Beihai and other places. In addition, the hydrogen production equipment adopts unit modularization and skid-mounted design, which can be quickly installed and put into operation on site, which is convenient for rapid promotion and replication.
