• VAR culture, sexting, crack, chundachunda... The new words of the Dictionary of the Spanish Language

TikTok has made new terms popular. Among them, rizz, a word used to refer to people with charisma, who have mastered the art of seduction, who like to flirt. And this, precisely, is the term that the 'Oxford University Press', the second oldest publishing house in the world, has chosen as word of the year in 2023. She has thus surpassed one of the favorites to become term of the year: swiftie, a term used to name Taylor Swift's fans.

According to 'The New York Times', the popularity of the term rizz exploded last June, when actor Tom Holland said in an interview that he did not have "rizz", which sparked a wave of memes on social networks and caused its use to multiply by 15 compared to 2022.

Casper Grathwohl, president of Oxford Languages, told the outlet that they have chosen the word to reflect the way social media affects changes in language.

In the case of Swiftie, Grathwohl says there may come a point where the term transcends Taylor Swift and is not only used to refer to her fans, but to a way of life.
