In Poland, there is consternation over the death of a 14-year-old girl who sat outside alone in the cold for hours. As the PAP agency reported on Friday, the teenager had made her way to school on Tuesday. She called her father and said that she was not feeling well – without saying exactly where she was. Then she sat down on the ground next to a supermarket and could no longer be reached by phone.

Although the shop was located on a main road, no one noticed the student for hours. The police have started a search operation. When the girl was found around 13 p.m. by a friend of her father, she was already very severely hypothermic. The teenager died on Wednesday evening in a hospital in Krakow (Krakow), as PAP reported, citing the police.

"We are all shocked," said the mayor of Andrykhov, Tomasz Zak. The city with around 20,000 inhabitants is located in the south of Poland in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Temperatures there are currently below freezing even during the day. An autopsy should bring clarity about the exact circumstances of death.
