Helene Fischer's hit classic »Breathless through the Night« has already been one of the most successful chart hits ever. The market research company GfK Entertainment, which determines the German charts, points out that the song is the only one with more than one million downloads and was in the charts for a total of 118 weeks.

And yet: The catchy tune composed by Kristina Bach has not been a number one hit so far. The single, which was released at the end of November 2013 from the album »Farbenspiel«, reached its highest position on 14 February 2014 at number three.

Now the new version of »Breathless through the Night«, published on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, has made it. A joint appearance by Helene Fischer and Shirin David last weekend on »Wetten, dass..?« may have given the decisive impetus for the leap to number one in the German single charts.

In the new version, Shirin David, 28, is involved with two new verses. In it, she raps, among other things, lines like "Who we love, it's nobody's business" or "Dress code: rainbow flag / What we have in common is that we are so different / But God doesn't make mistakes, wanted us to be just the way we are."

It is the first number one single ever in Germany for Helene Fischer. The 39-year-old's previous highest ranking was second place in 2021 for the duet "Vamos a marte" with Luis Fonsi. Incidentally, the original version of »Atemlos« had already reached number one in Austria.

Otherwise, the approaching Advent season is palpable in the current German single charts: Wham! Only three weeks after they returned to the charts earlier than ever before, they are already in second place with »Last Christmas«. 31 more Christmas songs followed, including Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (number three) and Shakin' Stevens' "Merry Christmas Everyone" (number five). The only two German-language festive songs in the Top 100 are Rolf Zuckowski's »In der Weihnachtsbäckerei« (29) and »Es schneit« (84).

In the album charts, the rapper Casper already has his sixth number one with »nur liebe, immer«. Behind them, The Rolling Stones ("Hackney Diamonds") improved from sixth to two. Of the 14 Christmas albums placed, Andrea Berg's "Christmas" (six) and Cher's "Christmas" (nine) are the most popular.
