In Shimonita Town, the production area of Gunma Prefecture's specialty "Shimonita green onion", the "Negi Festival" was held for the first time in four years where tourists can enjoy the freshly caught taste.

Shimonita green onions are characterized by their melt-in-your-mouth texture and unique sweetness when heated, making them a popular ingredient in hot pot dishes.

The "Negi Festival", which was held on November 11 every year as a pun on "good flavor" before the Corona disaster, was held on the 23rd for the first time in four years, and was crowded with more than 23,4 tourists.

At the venue, freshly harvested green onions cooked on the spot by local farmers were served, and visitors enjoyed the taste of the season.

A man in his 30s visiting from Chiba Prefecture said, "I had eaten Shimonita green onions before and wanted to taste them again.

Shimonita green onions will reach the peak of harvest next month, but shipments are expected to drop by about 4% due to the record-breaking heat of summer.

Hideo Hara, the mayor of Shimonita Town, said, "As a town, we would like to support farmers and promote the unique sweetness and flavor to people all over the country."
