The number of women and girls murdered worldwide rose to its highest level in 2022 years in 20, according to the United Nations. Around 89,000 women and girls were deliberately killed last year, according to the UN agency responsible for women, Uno Women, and the United Nations agency responsible for drugs and crime, UNODC.

80 percent of homicides are committed against men and boys. However, women and girls are significantly more affected by domestic violence. More than half of the murders of female persons, around 55 percent, were committed by family members or partners. For men and boys, the figure is only twelve percent.

The highest number of murders of women and girls due to domestic violence occurred in Africa with around 20,000, followed by Asia. In Europe, there were 2300,<>.
