In France, more than 4 out of 10 people are affected by myopia, a vision disorder that results in blurred vision from afar. This is twice as many as 10 years ago and yet, there are tools to slow down this deterioration of eyesight, in particular thanks to orthokeratology.

If you see blurry from a distance when you don't have your glasses on, it's because you're one of the 40% of French people with myopia. This figure is increasing as it is twice as many as ten years ago. However, there are tools to slow down this deterioration of eyesight, in particular thanks to orthokeratology.

Prevent myopia from increasing

These are hard lenses to be worn every night. They are tailor-made for each eye and allow the eyes to keep a very particular shape, explains ophthalmologist Jean-Philippe Colliot. "These lenses create an imprint on the eye. And this impression lasts between 24 and 36 hours, which allows the eye to avoid lengthening and therefore the myopia to increase. That is to say, you have to put them on really every night so that the shape of the eye remains the same," insists the specialist at the microphone of Europe 1.

Upon waking, vision is clear and completely corrected. A small revolution in the daily life of 13-year-old Noah. "It's convenient because I play tennis without wearing glasses. I think it's good because during the day I can see without wearing glasses," he says. No more problems with broken eyeglass frames during tennis matches. Noah's myopia stabilized when it should have deteriorated at the time of puberty. Rigid lenses are especially recommended for children but can also be worn by adults without age limit.
