Police operation in Hanover: Two 45-year-olds were killed

After fatal attacks on two men in Hanover, investigators have arrested a 21-year-old. The suspect was initially able to escape, but was caught "in the course of extensive search measures," the police said.

He is suspected of having fatally injured the two 45-year-olds with a stabbing weapon. The background to the acts is still unclear.

According to the police, attacks occurred at intervals of less than half an hour in the northern city, the crime scenes were a few hundred meters apart. According to the report, the perpetrator entered an arcade around 2 a.m. early Tuesday morning and "suddenly" stabbed a 45-year-old guest, who was so badly injured that he died on the spot despite rescue attempts.

Apartment searched, items confiscated

Another arcade visitor, who wanted to help the attacked 45-year-old, was slightly injured. Subsequently, the attacker fled the scene. About half an hour later, a 45-year-old man was stabbed to death in front of a nearby hotel. According to officials, the man suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital. In this case, too, the perpetrator initially managed to escape in an unknown direction.

As the police further announced, the suspect was also arrested on Tuesday in the northern city. Among other things, it was examined whether he had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During the search of his apartment, "objects" were also seized, "the relevance of which is still being determined." Investigations into the background of the incident were ongoing.
