At noon on the 8th, the Chinese white dolphin that stayed in the river in Guangzhou reappeared, and it was still able to ventilate normally. At around 13 o'clock on the same day, in order to prevent the Chinese white dolphin from going up the river, the sluice gate near the Meigui Xingang Pier in Guangzhou was temporarily closed. The fishery administration boat of the local government followed the Chinese white dolphin and kept a safe distance.

"Dolphins rely on echolocation systems for a range of activities such as navigation and communication." Marine animal experts said that the Chinese white dolphin entered the Pearl River by mistake, and the Pearl River is not the normal distribution range of the Chinese white dolphin, so it is speculated that the echolocation system of the Chinese white dolphin may have been damaged, and the terrain and hydrological conditions in the river network are complex, and it is not the open sea area where the Chinese white dolphin is used to living, and the Chinese white dolphin may not be able to find the right "way home".

Chen Xi, head of the technical section of the Guangdong Pearl River Estuary Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve Administration, said that the Chinese white dolphin may be an older individual, and it has been underwater for a long time, indicating that its vitality is relatively good, and the current situation is relatively normal, but if it stays in fresh water for a long time, it is not good for its health.

Chen Xi said that they will continue to maintain the tracking and monitoring of the Chinese white dolphin, the current river water is deep, there is no way to directly catch it, and it is necessary to continue to follow up and observe and judge, and take different rescue measures according to the different conditions of the Chinese white dolphin.

Marine animal experts said that once the Chinese white dolphin leaves the marine environment and enters the freshwater area of the river network, if it does not return in time, it may be in danger due to environmental discomfort, organ infection, ship activities and other factors.

According to reports, the Chinese white dolphin is a national first-class protected animal, and it is also the only national first-class protected aquatic wild animal in China, mainly distributed in the waters near Zhuhai in Guangdong, Beihai in Guangxi and Xiamen in Fujian. (ENDS)
