A 28-year-old chief constable of the Kagoshima Prefectural Police Headquarters has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 at an accommodation facility in Kagoshima Prefecture. He denies the charges.

The suspect arrested was Masatomo Hidaka (28), the chief constable of the Detention Management Division of the Kagoshima Prefectural Police Headquarters and a resident of Yoshino Town, Kagoshima City.

According to the police, Chief Inspector Hidaka is suspected of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 2 at an accommodation facility in Kagoshima Prefecture in late February.

It is believed that he met the girl through SNS, and the police arrested her after receiving an anonymous report, investigating the girl's interview and SNS communication history.

According to the police, the chief constable denied the charges, saying, "I had sex with the victim, but I did not know that she was under the age of 13."

The chief constable told the girl that she was a police officer, but the investigation so far has not confirmed any use of duty.

Takahiro Kamibeppu, Chief Inspector of the Kagoshima Prefectural Police Headquarters, commented, "As a police officer, this was a mischievous act, and I would like to express my deepest apologies to the victims and the citizens of Kagoshima Prefecture, and we will investigate the facts and take strict action."
