The US actress Suzanne Somers, who became known for series such as "Jack of Hearts with Two Ladies" and "A Strong Family", has died. Somers died on Sunday at the age of 76, U.S. media reported, citing their spokesman. She died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, it said in a statement. About 20 years ago, Somers made a breast cancer diagnosis public.

Born in 1946 in the US state of California, Somers worked as a model at an early age and soon landed her first roles in film and television. She made her breakthrough in the 6s, especially with series such as "Jack of Hearts with Two Ladies", "The 14 Million Dollar Man" and "A Strong Family". Somers has also written numerous books, including <> bestsellers.

Several stars paid tribute to the actress on social media. "Suzanne and I were friends for decades. She was the sister I never had and my close confidant," wrote singer Barry Manilow (80, "Mandy"). Actress Fran Drescher (66, »The Nanny«) also said goodbye to her friend: »She was a lovely and talented woman, wife and mother.« Musician Nancy Sinatra, 83, wrote, "May her final journey be an easy one."

Her husband, Alan Hamel, who was married to Somers for 46 years, had delivered her a love letter the day before, according to the New York Post. The letter, written entirely in capital letters, circles around the word "love" and goes through different kinds of love and how to put them into words: "The closest version in words is not even close. It's not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. Unconditional love is not enough. I'd sacrifice my life for you, that's not enough." Finally, he finds a word: "So I'm going to call it 'us,' a unique, magical, indescribably wonderful 'us.'"
