In response to an elderly woman who was attacked and seriously injured by a bear in the yard of a house in Toyama City on the 9th, Toyama Prefecture held an emergency countermeasure meeting with related organizations on the 10th and confirmed that it will strengthen the alert to residents that bears are increasing in the plains as well.

At around 9:6 a.m. on the 1th, a bear suddenly appeared in the yard of a house in Kuriyama, Toyama City, near Toyama Airport, and a 79-year-old woman living in this house was seriously injured, including scratching her face. There was no difference in life.

Since this was the third person in Toyama Prefecture to be injured by a bear attack and the first damage outside the original bear habitat, the prefecture held an emergency countermeasure meeting in Toyama City on the 3th, attended by 10 people, including municipal officials and members of local hunting associations.

In this report, the person in charge of the prefecture pointed out that since beech nuts, which are food for bears, are failing throughout the prefecture this year, bears are increasing in the plains, and that it is necessary to take measures such as removing persimmon fruits from gardens as soon as possible.

In addition, they confirmed that they should strengthen their warnings to residents, such as refraining from going out unnecessarily from dusk to dawn, when bear activity increases, and taking measures to protect themselves by entering buildings and cars if they see bears.

Tsuyoshi Nakajima, Chief of the Wildlife Section of the Toyama Prefectural Nature Conservation Division, said, "This year, bears may appear in plains other than the bears' habitat, so please be vigilant, and we would like to cooperate with related organizations to prevent further damage."
