Changchun, 10 Oct -- Foreign doctors who "heal their hearts" in Changchun

Written by Gao Longan

"[The next operation] may hurt a little." On the operating table, the Italian doctor Lavaro said a Chinese to the patient, and seeing that the other party nodded slightly, he said: "This is good, don't worry." ”

Liu Shiqi, the attending physician of the cardiology department of Jilin Heart Hospital who has worked with him for many years, half-jokingly revealed the secret to reporters: "On the operating table, it is a good thing for doctors and patients to 'chat' and explain that the situation is not complicated. More than 30 minutes later, Lavaro walked out of the operating room with a smile on his face and gave a thumbs up to everyone.

Francisco Lavaro is the director of the cardiology department at Jilin Heart Hospital. Eight years ago, he was attracted to Changchun by the hospital's public welfare project, the Jixin Project (providing free treatment for heart disease to poor patients). He originally planned to work in China for a year, but chose to stay here.

Over the years, he has treated patients while passing on his skills and experience to young doctors in China. Liu Shiqi said frankly: "Everyone in our department has been guided by Dr. Lavaro. ”

Also attracted to the project was Italian cardiac surgeon Marcio Scowson. "We have successfully treated more than 3,<> patients in this project, and I am very happy to be a part of it."

Over the years, Skausen and his colleagues have participated in several important clinical trials of coronary heart disease, many of which are international. "Right now, we have more than 600 random patients and none of them have died, and I think we're making history."

Scottson said that Chinese know how to be grateful, and although they don't speak the same language, they can feel their gratitude from patients. He pointed to the door of the ward, "Last week, we had a patient who had just completed surgery, and he used to wait for me here just to say hello. ”

"There are a lot of Chinese medical staff here who are fluent in English, which makes our work go very smoothly." Christian Desa, an anesthesiologist from Croatia, said that over the years, many international advanced technologies have been brought to Changchun and successfully used to treat patients, thanks to the cooperation of all medical staff.

"It's just that Chinese is so hard to learn, I once practiced for a sentence for two weeks." Desa shook his head with a smile, then flipped his badge over to show the reporter, which was a handwritten word "honored": "This is what I want to say to all medical staff and patients, it is my honor to meet them." ”

During the holidays, Desa has few special arrangements, watching TV at home, video talking to his family, and not going too far away. "I'm on call 24 hours a day at home, and the hospital is on call, not just me, but all of us."

The reporter found that the foreign doctors' residences were close to the hospital where they worked, and Scottson explained that only in this way can they rush back to the hospital as soon as there is an emergency.

Lavaro and his team completed the surgeries for 15 patients the day before the holiday, and treatment plans for all hospitalized patients were arranged so that they and their families could have a "peace of mind" reunion together. (End)
