The RTL reality show "I'm a Star – Get Me Out of Here" has won the German Television Award. The jungle camp prevailed in the category "Best Entertainment Reality". The almost 20-year-old format, in which celebrities live in the jungle for two weeks, had already been nominated for the award several times in recent years. The much-criticized ZDF film adaptation of Frank Schätzing's bestseller »The Swarm« was awarded as best multi-parter.

Philip Froissant received the award for his portrayal of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I in the Sisi series "The Empress" on Netflix. He addressed the audience with a political statement. He expressed his support for the activists of the Last Generation for spraying paint on the pillars of the Brandenburg Gate. In retrospect, people will not be upset about it, but about the failure to protect the climate. The group's action had recently caused a lot of criticism.

Joko Winterscheidt also made a plea for more climate protection – he won in the category "Best Documentary Series" with "The World's Most Dangerous Show" (Amazon Prime Video).

Bill and Tom Kaulitz honored

Jella Haase was named Best Actress for the action thriller series »Kleo« (Netflix), which also won the prize in the category »Best Drama Series«. Barbara Schöneberger received an award for her moderation of the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Bill and Tom Kaulitz won the award in the category "Best Entertainment Show" with their RTL format "That's my Jam" against "The Giovanni Zarrella Show" (ZDF) and Joko Winterscheidt's "Who steals the show from me?" (ProSieben). Turning to the competitors, Bill said: "Giovanni and Joko – being there is everything. Don't worry – next time again!«. In the category »Best Entertainment Comedy/Late Night«, TV Total (Pro 7) won the title.

»Best TV Movie« went to »The Mayoress« (ZDF) about an honorary local mayor who is committed to a refugee home. In the "Best Comedy Series" category, a Netflix production won: "King of Stonks". TV chef Tim Mälzer won the prize for best factual entertainment with »Zum Schwarzwälder Hirsch«: In the Vox programme, 13 people with Down syndrome work in a restaurant.

In the information sector, journalist Arndt Ginzel was honored for his coverage of the Ukraine war on ZDF. Another trophy went to the »Tagesthemen« edition from Kiev six months after the start of the war. RTL's "Dying for Beginners" was awarded as the best infotainment format: In the documentary series, Steffen Hallaschka and Olivia Jones deal with death.

ZDF's World Cup coverage was the best sports programme because it did not leave out political aspects of the tournament in Qatar. The best documentary for the jury was the Pro-Sieben production »Afghanistan in the grip of the Taliban«.

The German Television Award has been awarded since 1999 for outstanding TV achievements.
