In Great Britain he was also known as a theatre and character actor, but internationally Michael Gambon became famous through the »Harry Potter« franchise. Now the actor has died. This was confirmed by his family and his publicist. Gambon was 82 years old.

Gambon was born in Ireland in 1940. He had played headmaster Albus Dumbledore from the third episode after his predecessor, Irish actor Richard Harris, died in 2002.
