In Berlin, unknown persons have beaten a 34-year-old man, apparently because of his Islamic prayer cap, hospitalized. A man hit him several times in the face with his fist in a restaurant in Berlin-Neukölln on Sunday evening and tore his headgear from him, the Berlin police announced on Monday.

The victim was a non-Muslim German who wore the cap as a "fashion accessory". The man had ordered a beer on Sunday evening in a restaurant on the Schillerpromenade when the two men came and one of the two attacked him.

The perpetrator had asked the 34-year-old to consider beforehand which cap he was wearing. Subsequently, he fled with another suspect along with the headgear. Rescue workers took the victim to a clinic with a broken nose, a laceration on the lip and a loosened tooth. The police state protection in the State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
