In an unusual high-altitude rescue operation, the fire brigade in Munich has abseiled a senior citizen from a height of 56 meters from a tower. The 72-year-old Munich woman had climbed with guests on the famous tower of the parish church of St. Peter to show them the beautiful view, as the fire brigade announced. Upstairs, the woman had medical problems. First responders would have looked after them on a bench inside the tower and dialed the emergency call.

When the rescue workers arrived with their emergency backpacks, it was clear that it would not be possible to rescue them down the tower stairs, according to the statement. That's why they alerted the fire brigade, which arrived with the high-altitude rescue group. After setting up the necessary equipment, the woman was roped down from a height of 56 meters by Old Peter with a so-called sanding basket stretcher. The abseiling action itself lasted about five minutes, it said. According to the information, the woman was taken to a Munich clinic for further treatment.

Emergency services would have had to cordon off the area over a large area, as numerous spectators would have watched the spectacular rescue operation.
