Removing the orange paint from the Brandenburg Gate, which climate activists have sprayed on the landmark, is expected to cost tens of thousands of euros. This was announced by Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM) on request. Costs of 35,000 euros for cleaning can be assumed.

"We are currently assuming that the color pigments can be completely removed from the sandstone in the course of the week, so that the Brandenburg Gate for the Berlin Marathon is free of paint again," said a spokeswoman for BIM. The affected walls in ancillary areas and the floors would also be cleaned by the company.

Members of the Last Generation had sprayed the Brandenburg Gate with paint on Sunday. According to police, 14 people were arrested.

The cleaning work started on the same day. At the same time, graffiti protection had been applied in the cleaned area in the lower area of the columns.
