High-ranking visitor at Arthur Ashe Stadium: Barack and Michelle Obama watch Novak Djoković's tennis match against Alexandre Müller on August 29. They saw a clear affair: Djoković won the first set 6-0 - a result that is called a "bagel" in the USA, just like the round pastry with the hole in the middle. For Djoković, it was only the prelude to a series of victories that led him to triumph in the final on Sunday.

The US Open always attracts a lot of celebrities to the stands. The men's final was watched by actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves, among others. Immediately after Djoković's victory (6-3, 7-6, 6-2 against Daniil Medvedev), McConaughey was among the first to congratulate him in the Serb's box.

The four Grand Slams Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open are the most important tennis tournaments of the year. In New York, Justin Timberlake did not miss the show on the final day. For Djoković it was the 24th victory at a Grand Slam tournament - a record.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban also saw the exciting, but in the end quite clear final: Novak Djoković won without losing a set against Daniil Medvedev. A successful revenge: Two years ago, he lost the final in New York to the Russian - and thus missed the historic win of all four Grand Slams in one year.

Kidman had already been in the stands for the women's final the day before. The American Coco Gauff won 2: 6, 6: 3, 6: 2 against Aryna Sabalenka.

Actress Diane Keaton also watched the finale. Gauff was the first American to win the last Grand Slam of the year in six years. The U.S. men have been waiting longer (Andy Roddick 2003).

Also present on Saturday: actress Charlize Theron. For Gauff, 19 years old, it was the first triumph at a Grand Slam tournament.

Noble fan Justin Bieber may also have played a small part in this – at least if Gauff's statements after her hard-fought victory in the third round are to be believed. She had lost the first set against the Belgian Elise Mertens, but then – she told her – she noticed Bieber and his wife in the audience. "I thought: I can't lose to Justin Bieber," Gauff told ESPN with a laugh. "After seeing them, I haven't lost a game." Gauff won the decisive third set 6-0 – a so-called, you know, "bagel".

Hailey and Justin Bieber in the stands: The singer has picked up a tennis racket himself in the past, but no results have been handed down. In Germany, by the way, a 6-0, 6-0, i.e. a double "bagel", is called "glasses". But that's just a fun fact on the side. In the row behind the couple sits Jimmy Butler, professional basketball player for the Miami Heat.

Coco Gauff in particular was able to rely on the support of celebrities during the tournament. After her victory in the first round, she met the Obamas. During the victory in the round of 16 against Caroline Wozniacki, director Spike Lee (in the photo on the right) sat in the stands.

In addition to celebrities from the world of art and culture, sports stars always stop by New York. At the start of the tennis tournament, for example, former boxing world champion Mike Tyson and his wife Kiki sat in the audience.

Former football quarterback Tom Brady watched the semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev, which the Russian won in four sets. Brady had apparently missed Novak Djoković's semi-finals before, but he greeted the Serb like his "bro" in the corridors of the stadium. A short video of the organizer delivers the casual hello ("How are you doing my man") of the two and the advice to the tennis pro: "Keep kicking ass like always". After the final victory, you have to admit: Mission accomplished.

Many sports fans love statistics and records. So please: US swimmer Michael Phelps, the most successful Olympian in history, had won as many gold medals (23) as Novak Djoković Grand Slam titles by Sunday. Djokovic now has one more major title, but he is still missing an Olympic gold medal.
