The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has arrested six company executives for submitting false reports inflating the number of tests and attempting to defraud them of more than 5 million yen in subsidies regarding a business in Tokyo that allows free PCR tests for the new coronavirus.

A total of six people were arrested, including Daisuke Ueshima (40), the president of a company that was contracted to conduct testing by the medical corporation "Kafu-kai" in Osaka City, and Yohei Ando (40), an employee of a real estate company that operated a PCR testing site.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the six people are suspected of attempted fraud in an attempt to defraud them of about 6 million yen in subsidies for August last year by submitting false performance reports that inflated the number of tests related to a business in Tokyo that allows free PCR and antigen tests for the new coronavirus.

The subsidy is a system that is issued according to the performance of the test, and in the case of PCR test, the upper limit was about 6,8 yen per test.

According to the investigation so far, it seems that 5% to 3000% of the actual reports reported to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government were false reports, and the samples were filled with staff saliva and water.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government did not issue the subsidy due to suspicion of fraud, but the suspects applied for subsidies of about 1,1 yen and 8.9 billion yen from June to November last year, and the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the details of the subsidy.

The Metropolitan Police Department has not confirmed the identities of the six men.

In June, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government revealed that a total of 6.11 billion yen of fraudulent applications were made from 17 businesses, of which 12.8000 billion yen was granted.
