Toyota Motor Corporation announced that the shutdown at its plant from August 8 to 29 was caused by insufficient capacity in the database of the system that processes parts orders. While stating that the defect was not caused by a cyberattack, the company will strengthen its efforts to prevent recurrence.

On August 8, all 29 plants in Japan, including group companies, ceased operations due to a malfunction in Toyota's system for ordering necessary parts from parts manufacturers, and all plants were restored the next day, on the night of August 14.

According to Toyota's announcement, when the system was maintained on August 30, an error occurred due to insufficient database capacity, and the entire system stopped.

A similar failure occurred in the backup system, which prevented the switchover, leading to the shutdown of the plant.

Toyota has confirmed that the defect was not caused by a cyberattack, and will review the procedures for system maintenance work and strengthen efforts to prevent recurrence.
