The demolition of part of the Great Wall of China by two people to cut short their work sparked widespread interaction on social media, dominated by condemnation and ridicule.
The China Wall is known as the greatest military defense project in the history of human architecture, and it is the symbol of the Chinese nation, and it is always present with them to demonstrate the sacrifices of their ancestors to protect their country, and extends over a wide area, with a length of more than 20,<> kilometers and passes through the northern and northwestern borders of China.
But this important historic landmark suffered unprecedented damage, and it happened in an area called Yoyo County, where two people who were building in an area near the fence used a bulldozer to cut through the body of the fence to create a shortcut connecting their place of residence and their place of work.
After receiving a report about what happened with the Great Wall, local police later clarified in a statement that "a woman and a man who dug a gap, causing irreparable damage, were arrested and referred to the judiciary."
Denunciation and ridicule
The story sparked interaction on social media, and a network program in its episode on (2023/9/6) monitored part of it, including what Maryam wrote, "Their mood is high and lazy, laziness makes one think about anything to shorten the effort."
While Faisal Al-Muhanna tweeted, "Two people are destroying a global archaeological edifice that has been passed down through generations. There are many of them all over the world, sabotaging everything with no purpose and no justification other than harm."
An account called "Fams" suggested that "they keep this hole, and that it be considered a tourist attraction and tell the story to the tourist."
In his tweet, the godfather expressed his sadness at the matter, writing, "I was more upset about him than the Chinese, if they were foreigners, we say what they care, but you destroy an edifice for your country? Strange about you, really the ignorant himself does what the enemy does not."
Bassel's comment was ironic, tweeting, "If the manager asks you, why are you late? He said I was demolishing the wall, hahaha, the funny and tearful thing is that the whole world has become tendencies to destruction, ruin and facilitate everything built by those who preceded us."
It is noteworthy that the last collapse of part of the Great Wall occurred last year due to an earthquake that hit Qinghai Province with a magnitude of 6.9, and caused the collapse of about two meters of the wall in Gansu Province in northwest China, and the breach caused by the two workers reached an area of four meters.
