In response to the serious damage to the aquaculture industry caused by the red tide that occurred in Tachibana Bay in Nagasaki Prefecture this summer, Governor Oishi and others visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on June 6 and requested that they compensate for the losses of fishermen and develop technologies to prevent damage from red tides.

In Nagasaki Prefecture, red tide damage occurred in Tachibana Bay along the coast of Nagasaki City and Unzen City from late July to last month, and according to the prefecture, a large number of farmed fish such as tiger puffer fish and red sea bream died, and the damage is estimated to be about 7.13 billion yen.

In response, Governor Oishi of Nagasaki Prefecture and Mayor Suzuki of Nagasaki City visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on June 6 and held talks with Parliamentary Vice-Minister Fujiki.

In his speech, Governor Oishi stated, "Aquaculture in key industries is experiencing unprecedented red tide damage," and requested the government to directly compensate for the losses of fishermen and to develop technologies to prevent red tide damage.

After this, the meeting was held behind closed doors, but according to the prefecture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries indicated that the government would consider future responses.

After the meeting, Governor Oishi told reporters, "We must somehow protect the aquaculture industry, but it is difficult to do so with the prefecture's own measures, so we requested the national government.
