Form a joint force to prevent online game addiction

The continuous efforts of supervision, the implementation of obligations by enterprises, and the guidance and accompaniment of home and school help to form a joint force to prevent online game addiction, and jointly create a good environment for the healthy growth of minors

In recent years, with the development of Internet technology, online games are more interactive, immersive, and simulated, and have a strong attraction for minors. Minors' physical and mental development is not yet mature, their self-control ability is relatively weak, and they are easy to indulge in online games and become dependent. For this reason, the work of preventing minors from indulging in online games has always attracted much attention.

Strengthening supervision must be based on evidence. In order to effectively protect the physical and mental health of minors, the State Press and Publication Administration issued the Notice on Further Strictly Managing and Effectively Preventing Minors from Indulging in Online Games in August 2021, requiring strict restrictions on the time for providing game services to minors, increasing the frequency and intensity of inspections, and strengthening corporate supervision, while reiterating the strict implementation of real-name registration and login of online game user accounts. This measure aims to promote the prevention of addiction stricter and tighter and escort the healthy growth of minors.

Now, more than two years later, relevant survey data shows that more than 80% of parents recognize the effectiveness of anti-addiction work at this stage. The relevant report released by the Game Working Committee of the China Phonological Association pointed out that the total game time, monthly active users, consumption turnover and other data of minors have been greatly reduced. To a certain extent, this shows that the protection of minors in the game industry has achieved certain results. In the next step, on the basis of the existing anti-addiction system for minors, we should adhere to multi-party co-governance and take multiple measures at the same time, and constantly build a "firewall" for the protection of minors.

Online game addiction is a social problem, and anti-addiction work is a systematic project. Without any link, the anti-addiction protection system will be easily broken, and all efforts may be wasted. For example, the harm of the black and gray industry chain of online games cannot be underestimated. In reality, some unscrupulous businesses lure minors to bypass anti-addiction supervision by renting numbers, helping recharge, etc. Focus on highlighting problems and key links, further increase supervision, cut off the black and gray industry chain, so that the anti-addiction system will not be useless, and the protection of minors' rights and interests in the field of online games can better achieve the goal of full coverage and no dead ends.

To do a good job in preventing addiction for minors, we need continuous efforts and cohesion from all aspects. Government departments and industry enterprises should always take anti-addiction as the top priority of game management, and strictly implement the anti-addiction management system and implementation. Game enterprises and platforms are the main body of anti-addiction work, and must insist on putting social benefits in the first place, resolutely implement the requirements of anti-addiction work, and ensure that they do not change and do not deviate. At the same time, home-school coordination should be promoted to ensure that parents and teachers can better perform their guardianship and education duties, strengthen care and escort and restraint norms, and guide children to develop good living habits and Internet habits. The continuous efforts of supervision, the implementation of obligations by enterprises, and the guidance and accompaniment of home and school help to form a joint force to prevent online game addiction, and jointly create a good environment for the healthy growth of minors.

Today's minors have grown up in the Internet era, and they have more conditions, more opportunities, and more ability to access the Internet than before, and are very active in cyberspace. The number of minor Internet users in China has exceeded 1 million, and efforts should be made to guide minors to use the Internet in a civilized manner, scientifically access the Internet, and healthily go online, and continuously improve their Internet literacy. Practice tells us that to promote the continuous achievement of new results in anti-addiction work, we must stand at the height of shaping new Internet wind and purifying cyberspace, provide rich and safe network scenes for minors to study, socialize and entertain, and jointly build a beautiful spiritual home on the Internet.

Adhering to problem-oriented and effect-oriented, further improving the law, changing technology, and improving literacy will surely make minors' cyberspace clearer. (People's Daily Li Hongxing)
