When the problem of fraudulent insurance claims was discovered, founder Hiroyuki Kaneshige resigned as president of "Big Motor".

Street trees and shrubbery have been confirmed to be dead near stores all over the country, and among them, in front of the store in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, as a result of an investigation by the civil engineering office, herbicide components were detected, and the police are investigating on suspicion of damage to property.

At a press conference held on the 25th, Shinji Izumi, the new managing director and new president at the time, stated, "If there are weeds or garbage in the entrances and exits of stores and sidewalks, they are removed every morning. It has indicated that it intends to investigate whether it has any relationship with the store.

On the other hand, the national and local governments that manage street trees and shrubbery are also embarking on surveys one after another.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) is checking the condition of street trees in front of stores along the national highway, and has indicated a policy to check the situation with Tokyo and Osaka prefectures.

If you look at the "Street View" on Google Maps in front of the Big Motor store in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, as of February 2017, there are shrubbery trees about 2 cm tall on the sidewalk.

But in July of the following year, the amount of leaves was clearly low, and by November of last year, the shrubbery seemed to have disappeared.

The leaves of the street trees along the road in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, were lush in July 2019 when there was another car sales store.

However, in July 7, after the opening of the Big Motor store, the amount of leaves is low.

In August, a citizen contacted a nearby resident saying that street trees were dying, and Saitama Prefecture cut down the trees.

In Street View in April, four months before the trees were cut down, you can see street trees with almost no leaves despite the season of fresh greenery.

Former employee: "One centimeter of weed is out"

A former employee of Big Motor in the Kanto region revealed that cleaning the store grounds and surroundings was one of the evaluation items in the inspection called "environmental maintenance inspection" that company executives conducted once a month by visiting the store once a month, and that it was putting pressure on employees. Before the inspection, I would pull out weeds and pick up garbage, but it was really tense and I was scared to fight until it was over."

He said that he had never sown herbicides in front of a store, but said, "I don't understand how it feels to be more efficient to sow herbicides if we weed every month."

The management plan says, "The 10 meters around the company are cleaned every day."

In the list of inspection items of the "environmental maintenance inspection" that company executives, including the management of Big Motor, visit the store directly, it is written that "Is the area around the site and the sidewalks free of garbage, grass, sand, and maintained from the customer's perspective?"

In addition, the "Management Plan" booklet that the company distributed to all employees every year indicated the policy for improving the workplace environment, and it was written that "the 10 meters around the company should be cleaned every day."

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism investigates whether there are similar cases on national highways

In response to the suggestion that trees on the streets in front of the stores of the used car dealer "Big Motor" are withered or cut down, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has begun investigating whether there are any similar cases on national highways.

The survey has been conducted on national roads managed by the national government through national highway offices nationwide since the 26th.

Among them, ▽ We are confirming how many "Big Motor" stores facing the national highway are there, and whether there have been cases where the trees along the national highway in front of the stores have withered or been felled.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) says that if a similar case is found on a national highway, it will consider measures after investigating the causal relationship, such as conducting a soil survey to see if herbicide components are found.

Gunma Ota 17 street trees withered, police investigate for damage to property

In Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, 17 trees along the national highway were found dead last year, and herbicide components were detected in the soil, so the police are investigating the suspicion of damage to property.

In front of the street tree, there is a store of the used car dealer "Big Motor", and the company has indicated that it will investigate whether it has anything to do with the store.

According to the Gunma Prefectural Ota Civil Engineering Office, in August last year, a nearby resident contacted us that street trees were dying on the sidewalk of a national highway in Ota City, and when the civil engineering office confirmed it, a total of 8 trees had died for several hundred meters.

When the civil engineering office examined the soil near the base of the dead street tree, it detected herbicide components, so they reported the damage to the police last November.

The police have received the damage report and are investigating it on suspicion of damage to property.

Due to the risk of falling trees, the Civil Engineering Office cut down dead street trees in March and decided to replant new trees by the end of this fiscal year.

In front of the street tree, there is a store of the used car dealership "Big Motor", and the company has indicated at a press conference on the 17th that it will investigate whether there is any relationship with the store.

Mayor of Yokoyama City, Osaka: "Investigation of when it withered"

Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City confirmed that street trees had died in front of some of Big Motor's stores in the prefecture, and the prefecture and city will conduct soil surveys to investigate the cause.

When Osaka Prefecture checked the status of the street trees it managed, it was found that the street trees had withered and were removed by the prefecture in front of the two stores in the prefecture of "Big Motor", respectively,

and that the street trees were missing.

For this reason, the prefectural government will conduct soil surveys in the future to investigate the causes and details of the dead of street trees.

In addition, a survey by Osaka City found that street trees had died in front of two stores in the city.

Of these, in front of a store in Higashisumiyoshi Ward, Osaka, city officials found a dead street tree around October of Heisei 2, and there was a risk that it would fall, so it was removed after that, so Osaka City will also conduct a soil survey in the future.

Osaka Mayor Yokoyama told reporters on March 2, "Street trees are made by investing tax money to provide a space for residents to relax, and after investigating when they have withered and what kind of soil they have been, the city will confirm whether there was any damage."

At a press conference on the 2th, Mayor Akimoto stated, "If it is true that the herbicide was sown, it will be damage to property, and if there is a causal relationship, we must proceed with the investigation and take measures such as compensation for damages."
