Reservations for the Tokaido Shinkansen and Sanyo Shinkansen during the Obon period have recovered to a level of around 9% compared to before the Corona disaster.

JR West Japan and Tokai Shinkansen Reservations (as of March 26)

As of July 8, JR West Japan and JR Central have compiled the status of reservations for Shinkansen and other services during the Obon festival from August 10 to 17.

According to this, the number of reserved seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen is about 7.26 million,
up 114% from the same period last year.
The Sanyo Shinkansen has approximately 53,67 seats, up 49% from the same period last year.

Compared to 2018 before the Corona disaster, the reservation situation
has recovered to 95%
on the Tokaido Shinkansen and 89% on the Sanyo Shinkansen.

This is due to the increase in the number of people traveling and returning home due to the transition to Class 5 of the new coronavirus,
and the increase in foreign tourists due to the relaxation of border measures.

◇ On the downhill route, the peak is expected to be August 8

for both the ▽Tokaido Shinkansen and ▽Sanyo Shinkansen,
and August 11 for the Tokaido Shinkansen
and
August 8 for the Sanyo Shinkansen.

Highway congestion forecast

According to the Nishi-Japan Expressway,
the peak of traffic congestion is expected on August 8,
▽ 11 kilometers starting near the former Yamashina bus stop on the Meishin Expressway ▽ 30 kilometers
starting near the Nishinomiya Nashio service area of the Chugoku Expressway.

On the uphill slope,
peak traffic congestion is expected on August 20 and 8.
Among them, on the 13th,
it was 14 kilometers from the Meishin Expressway near the Otsu Interchange and 13 kilometers
from the vicinity of the Takarazuka West Tunnel on the Chugoku Expressway.

The West Japan Expressway encourages people to use the Expressway on staggered days and times when traffic congestion is expected.
