Lovers of American cinema will be served the week of September 1st: the Deauville Festival opens for a 49th edition, chaired by Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent. In the meantime, Europe 1 reveals the selection of films that will be in competition.

It will be necessary to wait until the first week of September to tread the sand of Deauville on the occasion of the famous Deauville Festival, which honors the greatest American works and actors. For this 49th edition, the competition will be chaired by Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent, who shared the headliner of Mon Garçon in 2017.

No less than 14 films are in the running to win the "grand prize", the Festival's supreme award. And some already stand out, like Blood for Dust, with Kit Harrington who is known for playing the beloved Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. The plot of the thriller focuses on drug trafficking, with the atmosphere and setting, a snowstorm. The film Aristotle and Dante tells the story of a troubled friendship between two teenagers, notably with Eva Longoria.

Adrian Brody as a modern-day guru

Jesse Eisenberg, noted for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, plays in the film Manodrome an Uber driver, influenced by an Adrien Brody in the skin of a kind of guru of modern times. A competition that is therefore intended to reflect the problems of American youth, addressing the sensitive subjects of high school shootings, questions around sexual orientation and the thin line between love and friendship.

Finally, it had already been announced: the Deauville Talent Awards will reward actress Natalie Portman and Peter Dinklage, also known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones.
