In a court case in which the family of a male inmate who died while serving time in Nagoya Prison is seeking damages from the government, it was found that Nagoya Prison accidentally saved the video of another person when saving surveillance camera footage of the man's life in the facility after his death on a recording medium, so some of the man's images were not kept.
When the court requested the preservation of evidence and submitted the recording media, the prison apologized, saying, "We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused to the court and the bereaved family due to the mistake of the staff."

In April, the family of a 3-year-old male inmate who died of myocardial infarction and multiple organ failure while serving time in Nagoya Prison filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court seeking compensation of more than 71 million yen from the government, claiming that he was unable to receive appropriate medical care even though he was complaining of poor health.

After the man's death, Nagoya Prison decided to save the surveillance camera footage of the man in a solitary room in the facility on a recording medium, but at that time, it was found that the staff made a mistake and saved the footage of another person, and some of the man's footage was not kept.

After that, he was asked to preserve evidence by the court and became aware of it when he submitted the recording medium.

If the surveillance camera footage is not saved on the recording medium, it is automatically overwritten after a certain period of time, and some of the man's images were also deleted.

Nagoya Prison held a press conference on the 4th and said, "It was a mistake by the staff, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the court and the bereaved families. In the future, we will make every effort to prevent this from happening again."

On the other hand, a lawyer for the man's family said, "It is extremely regrettable that the video should be kept in a serious case where a person died."
