This drone is designed to help extinguish a forest fire.

For several days, the flames have been blazing in the Brandenburg district of Teltow-Fläming. Winds had further fanned the fire on Sunday and Monday. On Monday evening, around 326 hectares of forest were affected – an area larger than 450 football pitches.

The drone is intended to provide firefighters with a better overview. Because they have a problem: On the former military training area near Jüterbog, they can only drive on specially marked paths that have been cleared of ammunition remnants. Some ammunition from the Second World War is still stored here. Again and again there are still detonations. As a result, the fire brigade cannot penetrate some sources of fire at all and has to extinguish from a safe distance and from the side.

Public Order Office»Nevertheless, because of the special nature of these areas, the district said right at the beginning: Okay, we'll support from the air, we'll try something with airplanes and helicopters. That's why we often had air support here for two days, and with this air support we tried to get this fire under control. Then we had to realize that the sheer size threw a spanner in the works.«

The fire is expected to reach a fire strip in the course of Tuesday, according to the local public order office. Villages or people should not be endangered so far.

By the way, the drone can't extinguish itself – it's simply too small for that.
