Along the waterway of Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, bougainvillea flowers that have been planted by local people for 17 years are in full bloom.

Bougainvillea is in bloom along the waterway leading to Hinagu Port in Yatsushiro City.

This is city-owned land in Yatsushiro City, and it used to be overgrown with weeds, but 17 years ago, Mr. Takayoshi Yoshida (77), who lives nearby, obtained the approval of the city and cut the weeds by himself and then planted bougainvillea little by little.

Today, there are about 1 trees that have grown to 400 meters in height along the waterway for about 4 meters.

Bougainvillea is in full bloom, and you can enjoy the sight of red and purple flowers swaying in the breeze from the sea.

Unfortunately, it rained during the day on the 200th, but according to Mr. Yoshida, many people visit not only from Kumamoto Prefecture but also from Fukuoka and Kagoshima Prefectures on holidays when the weather is nice.

The best time to see bougainvillea is likely to continue until the beginning of next month.

Mr. Yoshida said, "I am glad that the flowers are blooming beautifully this year, and I am very grateful that people from inside and outside the prefecture come to see the bougainvillea that we have carefully cultivated, and I hope that it will lead to the revitalization of the local area."
