In order to make it easier to delete slander on the Internet, an expert panel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has compiled an opinion that SNS and other businesses should be required to establish a window for deletion applications and publish standards for deleting posts.

Regarding the posting of slander on SNS and bulletin boards, the procedure is difficult to understand even if the victim tries to request deletion, and in some cases, it may not work sufficiently, and the expert committee examined countermeasures and compiled opinions.

It is necessary to consider requiring SNS and other businesses to clearly indicate the contact point for requesting deletion, develop procedures, and accept requests on Japanese.

In addition, it says that "deletion guidelines" should be created and made public, which summarize the criteria for responding to deletion when requested.

On the other hand, it says that we should be cautious about obliging government agencies to respond to requests to delete illegal posts from the viewpoint of freedom of expression.

Based on these opinions, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will consider the development of laws in the future.

At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on June 2, Minister Matsumoto stated, "Anyone can be involved in the slander in a serious situation, and I would like many people to take an interest in it and ask for their opinions."
