Two teenagers have hijacked a traditional ship in Kiel's Germaniahafen. According to information from SPIEGEL, it is said to be the tugboat "Odin".

As the police reported on Monday, witnesses had observed on Friday morning around 5.15 a.m. how the duo tried to pass the nearby bascule bridge, which was closed at the time, without a recognizable course. In the process, the ship collided with a dolphin – a pole rammed into the bottom of the harbor – of the bridge.

When police officers arrived at the scene a short time later, the suspects, aged 15 and 16, left the boat on their own. The officers arrested the youths and handed them over to their legal guardians. The traditional ship suffered damage to the rudder blade as well as to the bow and stern areas.

Before that, apparently entering a sailboat

It is still unclear whether the dolphin of the bridge was also damaged. The two teenagers are suspected of having previously boarded a sailboat that drifted abandoned in the harbor basin. According to initial findings, they had left the boat due to engine problems and subsequently loosened the lines. Whether there has also been damage to the sailboat will be checked.

"Odin" is an approximately 26-meter-long tugboat from 1965, which sails under the German flag and is based in the port of Kiel.
