The Civil Guard of the Region has developed in a farm in the municipality of Murcia the operation 'Bucephalus II', an investigation initiated thanks to the collaboration of citizens that has resulted in the investigation of the owner of a farm, who has been instructed proceedings as alleged perpetrator of crime related to the protection of flora, Fauna and domestic animals, for animal abuse.

During the development of the operation, the civil guards of SEPRONA found 31 dead horses in the livestock farm, according to sources of the Benemérita in a statement. The proceedings began at the beginning of the month when, thanks to citizen collaboration, the Civil Guard was alerted that, in a livestock farm in the municipality of Murcia, there were remains of horses in an advanced state of decomposition.

The Benemérita then activated its specialists from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), who located the farm and located its person in charge to carry out an exhaustive inspection.

In the technical-ocular inspection, the SEPRONA patrol verified the facts reported and verified in situ, together with the Veterinary Services of the City of Murcia, that there were a total of 31 dead equines in an advanced state of decomposition. The veterinary technician certified that some of these corpses could be more than a month old. The person in charge of the exploitation alleged to the civil guards that the dead cattle had not been removed because he did not have retirement insurance to take care of these expenses.

The Civil Guard has found the person in charge of the livestock farm did not provide the services of a veterinarian to treat the animals of an alleged respiratory infection that caused the death of the 31 equines.

The civil guards also found that in one of the rooms of the farm lived a score of goats with the remains of 14 equines in an advanced state of decomposition, with the consequent danger of infection for these animals and for people, as they are production animals that could enter at any time in the food chain.

In this sense, the Civil Guard has investigated the person in charge of the livestock farm, who has been instructed proceedings as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals, for animal abuse.

In addition, after verifying all the documentation required by facilities of this type, the SEPRONA patrol has informed the City of Murcia that the livestock farm does not have the corresponding municipal activity license.

A little less than a year ago, in this same farm, the Civil Guard already carried out another action where it also investigated the person in charge of the farm, who was instructed proceedings for the same crime, for the discovery of fifteen equine corpses in an advanced state of decomposition that, apparently, had not received the minimum veterinary services to cure alleged ailments manifested by the owner of the animals.

The crime of animal abuse is punishable in the Criminal Code in its art. 340, which may carry a penalty of pressure of 3 to 18 months, or a fine of 6 to 12 months, in any case will also be imposed the penalty of special disqualification of 1 to 3 years for the exercise of profession or trade that is related to animals and for the possession of animals.
