In connection with the issue of former executives of Kansai Electric Power Co. receiving money and goods from a former assistant in Takahama Town, Fukui Prefecture, individual shareholders filed a lawsuit against the former chairman and five others on the 19th, claiming that the former assistant had ordered construction work at an unreasonably high price and caused damage to the company, and demanded payment of more than 5.87 billion yen.

In connection with the issue of former executives of Kansai Electric Power receiving large sums of money and goods from a former assistant in Takahama Town, Fukui Prefecture, where the Takahama Nuclear Power Plant is located, the company's compliance committee pointed out last year that there were compliance violations, such as the former assistant being paid a less legitimate amount than the actual work to a contractor involved in the construction work to dispose of earth and sand as part of the safety measures at the nuclear power plant.

Individual shareholders pursuing the issue of receipt of money and goods filed a new shareholder derivative lawsuit in the Osaka District Court against five people, including former Chairman Makoto Yagi, former advisor Shosuke Mori, and former Vice President Hidemi Toyomatsu, claiming that they caused damage to the company and demanding that the company pay more than 5.87 billion yen.

Hiroyuki Kawai, a lawyer representing the shareholders, said, "This is a trial to pursue the fact that money from a company with a high public interest flowed to the former assistant."

Separately from this lawsuit, Kansai Electric Power and individual shareholders have filed lawsuits against former executives seeking compensation for damages.

Kansai Electric Power "Confirmed the contents of the litigation notice and considered response"

After the announcement of the compliance violation, individual shareholders asked Kansai Electric Power to file a lawsuit seeking damages against former executives who caused damage to the company, but no lawsuit has been filed.

Regarding the lawsuit filed by individual shareholders this time, Kansai Electric Power commented, "If we receive a notice of lawsuit from a shareholder, we will confirm the contents and consider how to respond to the lawsuit as a company."
