At the Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the three major film festivals in the world, the film by Hirokazu Kore-eda was screened in the competition for the top prize, and the audience praised it.

At the Cannes Film Festival, which opened on the 17th, Kore-eda's latest film "Monster" was nominated in the competition section to compete for the Palme d'Or, the highest award.

By depicting a single event from various perspectives such as children, parents, and teachers, this work questions what "monsters" mean, and the music was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in March.

Before the screening on the evening of the 17th, Kore-eda and screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto appeared on the red carpet with the performers Sakura Ando and Eita Nagayama, as well as two child actors.

A Polish filmmaker who saw "Monster" at a screening for the press said, "I've seen Kore-eda's previous films, and the child actors' performances were wonderful in a new style of film Japan.

A French reporter also said that a second Palme d'Or might be a possibility, bearing in mind Kore-eda's film "Shoplifters," which won the Palme d'Or in 2.

The winners of the competition section will be announced in the early morning of the 2018th, Japan time.
