At a gassho-style house in Shirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture, which is registered as a World Heritage Site, for the first time in five years, the roof was replaced in a form called "Yui" with the help of local people.

The work was carried out on the gassho-style house "Myozenji Koura" built about 200 years ago.

In Shirakawa-go in Shirakawa Village, thatched roofs have been replaced for a long time in a form called "Yui" that local people help, but the cancellation continued due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and on the 13th, for the first time in five years, wiping work was carried out with "Yui".

More than 5 people, including local elementary and junior high school students, participated in the work, and about 130,9000 bundles of heels were manually raised to the roof, tied with ropes made of straw, and finally struck with wooden tools from above to tighten them and finish.

In Shirakawa Village, due to the declining birthrate and aging population and the difficulty of asking many people to cooperate, the number of people who ask specialized contractors is increasing, and the work by "tie" is decreasing.

A 24-year-old woman living in Shirakawa Village said, "It was my first time to participate, and I was impressed by the fact that everything was made by hand, and I felt that I had to pass it on."

Shingo Oizumi, the chief priest of Myozenji, said, "Due to the new coronavirus, I couldn't do it with everyone for a long time, but I was grateful that some people were able to talk to me for the first time in a long time."
