In a meeting between teams playing in their first-ever African Cup semi-final, Young Africans handled the pressure better. On the heels of their convincing quarter-final, the Dar es Salaam-based club's players pulled off a great move by winning 2-0 over their South African opponents. Yanga's Burkinabe Aziz Ki was the right guide in opening the scoring after suffering with his team from the opposing resistance. The Polokwane team had to give in after the hour of play (64th) on a goal from the Burkinabe international served by the Congolese Kisinda.

It is another player from the DRC who will add to the bill and give margin to his teammates before the return match: Fiston Mayélé. The top scorer of the Confederation Cup thus managed a sixth goal in stoppage time (92nd).

The second semi-final of the day was tighter between the Ivorians of Asec and the Algerians of USM. The Abidjanese have never been able to find the opening in front of a team of the Usma which had nevertheless conceded three goals in its quarter-final against the Far of Rabat (4-3). The Mimosas players thought they had achieved their goals when young striker Karamoko Sankara scored in the 28th, but his goal was eventually cancelled out for offside. Everything remains to be done for Julien Chevalier's men.

The second legs will take place in a week's time, on May 17.
